This week, you'll need to share what you're currently reading. Write a summary that tells us the main parts of your story (think of someone wants but so then) WITHOUT spoiling anything for other readers. This should be the same book that I've been seeing you complete your bookmark(s) about. Your blog post should be 150 words or more.

I'm currently reading the historical fiction novel Refugee by Alan Gratz. This novel is complicated when it comes to identifying the genre because there are three perspectives that all take place in different time periods. One of the protagonists is Josef, a boy who is trying to flee Nazi Germany with his parents and sister during World War II. He has been met with many obstacles, including his father being sent to a concentration camp and empty promises from his country. Another protagonist is Isabel, a Cuban girl who is fleeing Castro's regime in Cuba during the 1990's with her family and neighbors. They cobbled together a boat out of materials they could gather and set sail in a dramatic adventure trying to reach Miami. The last protagonist is Mahmoud, a Syrian boy whose home is destroyed from the attacks on his city. He flees Syria with his family only to be met with obstacle after obstacle along the way. I can already see that these three stories will connect in some way despite the fact that they are all living in different time periods. I can't wait to find out how it ends!

Abduction! is a Mystery novel by Peg Kehret. It is primarily focused on a boy named Matt, but also focuses on a girl named Bonnie. Bonnie is Matt’s half-sister. I read this book because Morgan booktalked it, so I read it, because it sounded cool. In this book, Matt gets abducted as school lets out one afternoon. The abductor uses Matt’s dog, Pookie, as bait, to lure Matt into his car. The abductor stole Pookie from Matt’s house the night before. I can’t say who the abductor is, because that would spoil the story, so you have to read to find out. This is the last book I finished reading. I finished it yesterday. It’s one of my favorite books ever, because it’s thrilling and suspenseful. The abductor hides Matt in his/her home in Seattle, which is the same city Matt lived in before he got abducted, so he stayed close to this old house. The abductor has to threaten Matt with a gun, make up fake stories, and tell people that Matt is crazy, so Matt doesn’t call for help. It is very shocking when it is revealed who abducted Matt, and it’s not who you might expect. If you like an interesting Mystery story that doesn’t take very long to read, Abduction! Is the right book for you.

I am currently reading a book called Abduction by Peg Kehret. This adventure novel is about a little 5 year old boy that lives with his older sister, his mother, and a cute little dog. One day a strange man opens their gate when no one was home and decides to take their dog to persuade Matt the little boy to get into his car. Little did Matt know this man that kidnapped him was his mystery father that Matt has never met. Now the word got out and everyone is looking for him. After Matt’s first week with his unknown father they went to a baseball game, the same game Matt’s sister went to. At the sixth inning Matt’s sister saw a kid that looked exactly like Matt and it was but now they have to deal with their father that carries a handgun everywhere he goes. What are they going to do now?

The book I just currently finished was Because of Shoe, a realistic fiction short story collection all about heroic dogs edited by Ann M. Martin. There are nine short stories all by different authors; Wendy Orr, Pam Muñoz Ryan, Mark Teague, Thacher Hurd, Ann M. Martin, Valerie Hobbs, Margarita Engle, Matt de la Peña, and Jon J Muth. My favorite ones were Dognapper, Because of Shoe, Trail Magic, and Things People Can’t See. Dognapper is about a little wiener dog that is determined to find a poodle-napper. Will he? The short story Because of Shoe, also, the name of the collection, is about a girl who is at court to explain a story with her dog. The next one of favorite stories is Trail Magic. It’s about a boy with a troubled past and is now living with his uncle, who is a trail angel, and his rescue dog. When a little boy gets lost he and heroic pup go out to find him and get lost. Will they find the boy and make it back home. Finally, Things People Can’t See is about a boy going to a preppy private school and isn’t welcome. He dog is missing and he gets beat up by some boys, he isn’t liking his odds. Then when one girl steps out with some kindness, he finally feels like he belongs. But will his dog come back? These stories along with the others are perfect for dog lovers.

I'm currently reading the realistic fiction novel Wonder by R.J Palacio. This book is about a 5th grade boy named Auggie who has a deformed face. Auggie has a hard time trying to fit in, and he's not proud of his face, but his parents tell him not to think like that. I have seen the movie wonder, so I know how it ends, but the book is a little different and I'm excited to see the differences between the book and the movie!

“Fierce” is an autobiography by Aly Raisman. It is about a gymnast named Alexandra Raisman (Aly for short) that has a dream to go to the Olympics. The story tells the reader about her life. She tells us her journey to the Olympics, including her ups and downs. She says that gymnastics is her life and should would be a completely different woman without it. This autobiography explains her life and the fears she has. She would spend at the 6 hours a day at the gym trying to achieve her dream. Aly tells us her inspiring story of dedication, perseverance, and learning to think positive even in the toughest times on her path to gold medal success in two Olympic Games. Aly had many times when she felt empty or judged especially at school for be known as the gymnast instead of just her. She has been called too fat or too skinny or too muscular for a girl, but overlooked those hard times and achieved her dream.

The book that I am currently reading is, “Harry Potter and The Order Of The Phoenix”, by J.K. Rowling. So far, in the book Harry has been going through a lot. Not just having everyone stare at him when he walks by because of the scar on his forehead, or because all the teachers have been giving the students a lot of homework to get ready for their O.W.L.s examens. But because he has been seeing Lord Voldemort’s visions. This might seem like a good thing because Harry will be able to see/feel what Lord Voldemort is doing, but on the other hand, Lord Voldemort can see what he is doing as well. But before Harry started to get Lord Voldemort’s feelings/seeings, Harry stared up a Defense against the Dark Arts group to try and teach Jinxes to students since their new teacher, Professor Umbridge, doesn’t teach them anything about Defense Against The Dark Arts. One night, when Harry is talking to Sirius through the fire about the Defense Against The Dark Arts group, Professor Umbridge catches Sirius through the fire (Sirius is wasn’t caught). Now Harry can’t talk to his godfather or even have a Defense Against The Dark Arts group (or can he). I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a book that you just don’t want to stop reading! But you should definitely read the first 4 book in the series before you start this one.

Currently, I am reading the sci-fi novel The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. This book takes place far in the future, when North America has naturally moved, and is now broken up into different sections of land. This land is now called “Panem”, and is run by The Capitol, an island that is located near the middle of Panem. The other island-like pieces of land, (districts) didn’t like the fact that they would be ruled over by the Capitol. So, all 13 districts revolted against them. Because of the natural barriers that The Capitol has, many mountains and cliffs, it made it extremely hard for the 13 districts to invade The Capitol, and overtake it. The Capitol took advantage of their upper hand on the districts, and was able to very easily defeat them.To prove their superiority, The Capitol created The Hunger Games, an annual occurrence in which the people of each district within the age of 12-18 have to have their names entered into a “raffle” for the girls or the boys. If you are the “lucky” winner of either of the categories, then you are immediately removed from your home and taken to the Capital. Many years after the Hunger Games were invented, there lives a girl named Katniss Everdeen, who is a habitent of District 12. Her, her mother, and her sister Prim have to scrape to make it by in life. Then, the dreaded day of The Hunger Games arrives. Prim has just turned 12, so her name is only entered in the raffle once. Katniss is 16, so she has her name entered multiple times. Everyone in the districts gathers in the town square, and listens for the names to be announced. Then, the unthinkable happens. Will Katniss and her sister be safe from the game of hunger, war, and insanity, or will they have to suffer to the death and kill the lives of others to survive?

I’m reading the realistic fiction novel Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. This book is about a high school student named Clay that receives a strange package in the mail. The package is a taped up shoe box. Inside is 7 cassette tapes, each with 2 sides. Clay, out of curiosity listens to the first one. He is shocked when Hannah Baker’s voice plays into his ears. Hannah Baker, someone who he had taken an extreme liking to, recently committed suicide. Over the first tape, Hannah explains how the tapes will work. Several people had received the tapes before Clay and he would send them off to another unlucky person. Each person receiving the tapes however, played a role in Hannah’s death. Clay thought Hannah was just a high school sweetheart, though they had never actually dated. How could he have possibly played a role in her suicide? Well, you’ll need to read to find out! Which also, if you didn’t know, the TV show is based on this book. It came out on October 18th, 2007. In my opinion, this book spreads a vital lesson. Even the most simple actions or words can take a huge toll on someone’s life. That saying that everyone always thought was idiotic, actually plays a huge roll in this novel. Think before you act and speak.

The dystopian novel Ready Player One is written by Ernest Cline. The setting takes place in Ohio, in the year 2044. A young man named Wade, Wade Watts is watching TV when a breaking news alert pops up stating that someone died. This was unusual because mostly the public doesn’t really care that some rich guy died, but this was different. The man that died was the inventor of the OASIS, a virtual reality video game. Halliday was the inventors name. He made a virtual easter egg or a key that was a clue to getting his fortune… of 210 billion dollars. Weeks and months and years passed, the some random kid in Ohio went on the OASIS on the leaderboard it said “READY PLAYER ONE” and this kid… was Wade Watts. From then on, Wade was leading the game and people wanted that money so as you may have infered people tried to kill him and from then on he had to survive. If you want to read more than I encourage you to go get this amazing book at Barnes and Noble.

I am currently reading the realistic fiction novel It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini. The main character or protagonist in this book is Craig Gilner, our narrator, a 15 year old boy who lives in Brooklyn with his sister, mother, and father. Craig has many "tentacles" or problems and now sadly suffers with depression, he believes that something happened and his brain is now out of place and is waiting for the "shift" to make him "normal" again. Under the stress and pressure of everything he is going through, he develops irregular sleeping, eating, and social problems and patterns. He begins to have horrible thoughts, thinking maybe he'd be better off gone. He is eventually admitted into a psychiatric hospital, though he doesn't feel he as if he belongs there either, he meets some friendly people. He must then figure out how to get better, do what makes him happy, and recover.

Currently I am reading Unwholly, a dystopian by Neal Shusterman. It is the second in a series. In the book if you are between the age of 13 and 18, your parents/guardian can unwind you. Unwinding is a surgery that takes a person, and pretty much dissects them and separates them into separate organs, while they are alive. Then the parts are given to people as donors to people who need them. Creepy right? Well many kids try to escape this. Each chapter in this book is from a different perspective. Connor, who is probably the most like the main character, is one of those runaways. This book is about his and his friend's attempt to escape the demonic government. The second most main character is Risa. She is a ward of state who didn’t pass certain qualifications, so she was sentenced to be unwound. Like Connor, she went rogue. Unlike the others Lev (short for Levi) is a different kind of unwind. Specifically known a tithes. Tithes were tricked by their parents that unwinding was good, and are raised to be unwound. The it is up to you to see if they escape, (but there is a second book so you can probably guess.).

I am reading the Classic Sherlock Holmes novels. The Sherlock Holmes novels are told in the perspective of Dr. Watson, who was a army surgeon who was injured. Watson is Sherlock Holmes' friend, assistant and sometime flatmate, and the first person narrator of all but four of these stories. He is described as the typical Victorian-era gentleman, unlike the more eccentric Holmes. In the first book, A Study In Scarlet, Sherlock Holmes has to figure out the Classic "Who Done it" when someone is murdered. At the crime scene, The body is there, with no wounds, so immediately, Sherlock says that he was poisoned, following the hints and clues, Will Sherlock and Watson crack this mystery, or will they end up over their heads? Read the book to find out! {I am not very far into this book.} The book itself is a collection of four titles, The Hound of The Baskervilles, A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of the Four, The Valley Of Fear.

He tries to figure out why his life is so terrible even though his dad is a rock star and he has everything that money can buy. Currently I am reading Orbiting Jupiter, a realistic fiction novel by Gary D. Schmidt. The book is about a boy named Jack and his family who take in a foster child named Joseph, after Joseph is released from a Juvenile Delinquent Facility . Joseph is 13 and has a daughter named Jupiter (Jupiter was Joseph and Maddie’s favorite planet), who he has been separated from. Joseph will, and does do everything he can to find Jupiter. Jack tries to stand up for Joseph when he is bullied about his daughter, and his actions. Jack and his family live on a farm, and the cows love Joseph. My favorite part is when Jack and Joseph stand up to the bus driver. I don’t really know why that was my favorite part, but it shows Joseph that Jack cares about him. The story is told through Jack’s perspective. I would recommend this to anyone that likes realistic fiction, and sad(ish) novels.

I’m currently reading the dystopian novel Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. This is the second book in the four-part series The Hunger Games. It’s a year later after the 74th Hunger Games, and Katniss and Peeta are still recovering from the adversities they faced in the Games. They are now prepping for the 75th Games, which is different from the rest, because it’s the Quarter Quell. In the Quarter Quell, previous victors are pull from the bowl at the reaping, and Katniss and Peeta are called up. Before it’s time for Katniss to leave, President Snow confronts her, telling her he doesn’t want to see anymore stunts with Peeta and that he’s watching her every move. Katniss will have to go out of her comfort zone to make allies with other districts, and to also keep up her “romance” with Peeta. The Hunger Games; Catching Fire is filled with even more action, emotion, and love then the first book.

I just started reading the realistic fiction novel Conversion by Katherine Howe. In the book Colleen Rowley is the protagonist. So far in the book Colleen has introduced her friends and some of her classmates at St. Joan's Academy. One day in class Clara (the most popular girl in their grade) was sitting at her desk when she just started twitching and shaking and then fell over. They couldn't figure out why this happened. Recently, I read the third book in the Magnus Chase series, Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Ship of The Dead. Magnus Chase is a three part series by Rick Riordan. Instead of spoiling the second and third books, I will write about the first novel in the series, Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer. This fantasy novel is about homeless 16 year old Magnus Chase, and his adventures after death. After dying, Magnus is brought to Valhalla, the hall of the dead. Here, Magnus is informed that the sword he was supposed to be retrieving when he died, would start a chain of events leading to Ragnarok, the end of the world. Seeing that none of the other einherji (undead warriors of Valhalla) really cared if the world ended, Magnus sets out with his friends to postpone Ragnarok. Along the way, Magnus and his three companions find many dark secrets.

Currently, I am reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It is a fantasy series by J.K. Rowling. I’m currently in the 5th book of the series. The main character and one of the protagonists is Harry Potter who is known as “the boy who lived.” They call him this because he is the only person who ever survived the killing curse cast by Voldemort, who is the antagonist. In this book, Harry Potter has several difficult challenges to overcome. Early on Harry has to face a trial with the Ministry of Magic because he used underage magic for self-defense. Later in the book Harry has a cruel teacher that enforces an extreme amount of rules and regulations to make Hogwarts supposedly safer for the students. Actually she and the Ministry are in denial that Voldemort is back. The teacher becomes High Inquisitor and makes life at Hogwarts miserable with all the new rules and regulations. I can sense that Voldemort is creating an army that is going to take over if the Ministry keeps living in denial. I can’t wait to finish the book.

The book I'm currently reading is a historical fiction book by Elizabeth Wein titled Code Name Verity. In this book, a woman, nicknamed Queenie as well as other names including Verity (hint: the title), is captured by the Nazis during World War II when the plane she and her best friend are flying crashes in Nazi-occupied France. She is labeled as a British Spy and is interrogated by the Nazis. The Nazis give her two options, reveal her mission or suffer a gruesome execution. She chooses the first option, and writes her confession for the Nazis to read. As she tells the enemy all the secrets she knows, she hopes that her confession will keep her alive. The book is made up of her written confessions. I have only just started the book but so far I have enjoyed it. The book includes moments of humor, adventure, and friendship even through the harsh times of war.

I’m currently reading the realistic fiction book Borderline, by Allan Stratton. Sami Sabri, a muslim teenager in an expensive academy is far from happy as he is bullied by one student that he names so aptly “Eddie Duh Turd.” His only friends are his neighbors, which go to other schools. All he wants is to be treated normally by the rest of his classmates, and even friends. But when his father goes away on odd meetings for days, Sami becomes suspicious of his father’s real intentions at these meetings. So Sami turns to his father's computer to monitor his calls and texts, and as he sifts through his father's personal information he discovers a mysterious number that Sami had never seen before. So Sami calls the number unaware of the consequences that it would bring. Then Sami’s family is involved in an FBI raid that will change their lives forever.

This week I read the book This Is Where It Ends a realistic fiction novel by Marieke Nijkamp. The book takes place over 54 horrifying minutes of a high school shooting told through four different students perspectives who all happen to have personal connections to the shooter. They are all confused and hurt thinking about what they could have done stop this horrible tragedy. Two of the main characters Autumn and Sylvia are in the auditorium while the shooting is happening like most of the other students at Opportunity High, while Tomás is in the hallways of the school and Claire is outside of the building at track practice. All the students really want are for everyone to remain safe and for the shooter, Tyler, to go back to the fun loving, caring person he used to be. But Tyler's anger keeps building up won't let anyone stop him now. It's already to late.

I am currently reading Divergent by Veronica Roth. This is a dystopian book which shows both friendship and problems with the government. I am not really into type books but everyone kept recommending this book to me. Divergent is about a girl who has to choose what her future will be like. Will she be fierce, will she be smart, will she be crafty? Tris, the main character of the book new what she wanted to do. She was fierce. She wanted to be different then what her family was like. She takes big risk going into Dauntless. She even risk her life! Along the way she meets great friends and discovers things she doesn’t know she would discover about her and the government. Read the book to find out more!

I am currently reading a book called long way down by Jason Reynolds. It’s been 2 days since I read it and I am already on page 132 because it is so good. Also it’s my first verse novel. In the beginning of the book Will’s brother Shawn was shot and killed. This had a huge impact on Will because Shawn ment a lot to Will. Will has a feeling who it could be and why they did, but as he gets on the elevator to something unbelievable he sees familiar faces. As he talks to them he he sees what they all have in common with Shawn’s death

I am currently reading the realistic fiction novel Dreamland, by Sarah Dessen. The main character, Caitlin is in high school, seeking more attention from her mother. Everyone in her family is shocked to find that her sister, Cassandra has run away with her boyfriend. Although everyone is devastated, Cailin’s mom has the most trouble coping. Before leaving, Cassandra left a gift for Caitlin. The gift was a notebook and to it there was a note that said that she would meet Caitlin in “dreamland”. Cailin found it soothing to write in that journal, although she never knew what to write about until she met Rogerson. Rogerson is the exact opposite of Caitlin. She never thought he would be the one she fell in love with. Caitlin had made it her life's mission not to follow in her sister's footsteps, but she couldn't resist Rogerson. Whenever she is/was with him, she feels like she's in her own dreamland, not quite like the one with her sister. Rogerson makes some positive and negative impacts on Caitlin and her life, read to find out what these impacts are! I recommend the author Sarah Dessen, her writing style is very unique and I personally enjoy it.

I’m reading a non-fiction book: The Life You Imagine by Derek Jeter. This book is about Derek’s life of becoming a baseball player and what he went through or did to get to where he is now( retired MLB player). His dream was always to be the starting shortstop for the New York Yankees and his dream came true. This book starts when he was just a little growing up in Kalamazoo, Michigan and is told all the way through his life. I like this book because it tells with great detail everything Derek had to go through to become a MLB player. One of Derek’s big role models is his parents. This book has a whole chapter about how Derek was always big on role models and still is. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Derek Jeter and you don't have to know a lot about baseball to read this book but you just might not know some of the people he is talking about. For example his favorite player growing up was Dave Winfield and Derek often refers back to his lifestyle and it my be a little confusing if you didn't know who that was. But other than that this was a great book.

I am reading a fantasy book called The Trials of Apollo written by Rick Riordan. In this book the former greek god of the sun art music poetry healing and numerous other things Apollo finds himself stuck in a mortal teenage body in the middle of New York city. Apollo realizes that he is being punished for a war with the giants ( which this story is in the Percy Jackson and The Heroes of Olympus series) By his father Zeus. Apollo soon meets a girl named Meg Mccaffrey and they travel to camp half blood. In camp half blood Apollo is frustrated by his lack of power and his little to no power, only a small fraction of what it was when he was a god. This book (and any other book in this era like Percy Jackson for that matter) is action packed interesting and a page turner. This book is part of a three book series which also includes The Dark Prophecy and The Burning maze. I would suggest this book to anyone who likes mythology adventure or fantasy books.

I am currently reading “We Are All Made of Molecules” by Susin Nielsen. It is a realistic fiction novel about a so-called “It Girl” who has a dream life until her father comes out as gay to her her mother. Her mother soon finds romance with a coworker who’s son just happens to go to Ashley’s school. His name is Stewart who is considered (rudely) “weird” or “unpopular” by Ashley and her friends. Stewart lost his mother to cancer just a couple years prior to this, and they are already moving in with Ashley and her mom. Stewart is quite happy with this adjustment, meanwhile, Ashley couldn’t be more horrified. The story is very comical and realistic, due to the sad and disappointing current middle school society. Ashley and Stewart couldn’t be more different. Their only similarity is that they are both made of molecules, but then again, who isn’t?
