For this week's blog post, tell me what book you are reading for literature circles. What was it about this book that made it one of your top picks? Have you read anything like it before? Based on what you've read so far this week, state a prediction within your blog post. Be sure to explain why this prediction makes sense (i.e. what evidence do you have that it may come true so far).

This week I am reading Wringer by Jerry Spinelli. This book was one of my top choices because I thought it had a really good plot. I also thought it would be a very interesting book based on the brief summary because i was very interested to see how the author thought to write about this book becasue it’s a very unique topic that’s not commonly written about. I haven’t really read anything like this before because my genre seems to stray more to dystopian or reaistic fiction, where the charecters, settings, plot etc. are more like what you would see today. The Wringer is realistic fiction but it almost seems to be a whole new subgenre within the capacity of realistic fiction. This is because it’s hard for me to imagine a specific place where, at a certain age boys are expected by society to take on the job of wringing, wounded birds necks.

The book I am reading for literature circles is called Painting the Black. It was my top choice and I am very glad that I got this particular book assigned. So far there is a boy named Ryan. Somebody moves in next door and he goes and introduces himself. They play baseball for a while and there as Ryan is helping Josh unload the moving boxes, he sees that Josh is an all-star baseball and football player. While I was reading this, it shows that Ryan had trouble with his birth. I believe that when he will start getting really into baseball with Josh, something bad will happen and he wont be able to play anymore. This may possibly happen because he was weak as a baby so what if something happens while they are playing football and he gets hurt again. That is a prediction for my reading book.

I am reading Bruiser by Neal Shusterman for literature circles. It is a science fiction book. I have never read a science fiction book before I have always have read realistic fiction books. So far I love the book! I predict that the science fiction part of the book is going to be something about Brewster. There is a boy named Tennyson and he has a sister named Bronte and Bronte dates Tennyson. However I think Tennyson is a little over protective of Bronte because he does not what her to go out with him. Brewster has this awful scars and marks on his back and I predict that will be a little about the science fiction part as well. I also predict that maybe Bronte thinks about what Tennyson was saying about Brewster and not wanting for her to go out with him and maybe she will put that into consideration.

The literature circle book I am reading is The Tale of Despereaux. I chose this book to be in my top three choices because it seemed interesting. It seemed interesting because it was told in three different perspectives, a mouse, a rat, and a princess. Also, I had heard of the book before but ever read it so I decided to read it now. I have read books with different perspectives, but not in this genre with such a variety of mane characters, so no, I haven’t read a book like this before. Based on what I have read so far this week, I predict that the three protagonists will meat eventually. I predict this because Despereaux has already met princess Pea, and in the beginning it says that Despereaux was destined to meat the rat and because of this I think that eventually they will all meet each other.

My literature circle book was "Uglies". It's about Tally, the main character who is an ugly. She is turning 16 so she will be getting the operation done on her. Her friend Peris has been missing and she is trying to take peaks in New Pretty Town (where he lived) to see what is going on. At a pretty party she makes a new friend named Shay. She doesn't want to become because of some mysterious reason. Tally has turned sixteen in the part I read today, so we will see what really happens when you turn pretty. I picked this to be my top choice, because I knew we would have a lot to discuss about. And I thought it was a really good book. I have not read anything like this at all. What I predict is that Shay knows what really happens when you become a pretty, and it's NOT good. My lit circle group feels that they make a duplicate of you, and change some stuff and get rid of the your old body. They say that pretties are not good athletes after the operation, so they could be made of some other material, non human like. That is my prediction and what the book is about.

For my literature book I am reading “Ship Breaker” by Paolo Bacigalupi. This book made No. 1 on my list because when I was little, I loved boats; all kinds (and I still do). I love to read about clippers and warships and in my spare time I draw them so that is why the title drew my attention. Then when Mrs. Stillitano gave a short summary of the book, it sounded like a really good read all the ship “breaking”, thrill, and the hard life the protagonist lives. I don’t prefer dystopian novels, but I have read “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins, and I figured I should try reading another to see how I liked it. So far, I have read about 125 pages and I am really enjoying it. Based on what I have read, I believe that Nailer and Pima will both collect all the loot on the beached clipper, and they will both become rich because all they have found so far worth so much. I believe this prediction because they are the only ones who have found the treasure aboard the clipper and because Pima says: “’That’s enough to pay off all our work debts. With that much cash you could set up scavenge on your own. Even buy Bapi’s light crew slot.”’ This is why I believe both Pima and Nailer will both become rich and not have to work on a scavenge team anymore.

I am currently reading The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. I chose this book because I love books that are a little mysterious, and once and a while I look for a book that shows real emotion between the characters. I have never actually read a book like this but it's a new experience through reading. I predict that in The Graveyard Book that the 3 ghouls are going to go after the main character Bod short for (Nobody). This is because the ghouls want Bod for their next meal, only they think he's dead. I don't actually have evidence right now for my prediction, but i have a feeling that something bad is going to happen in this book. This is such a great book for those who, like I said like mystery adventure and a little bit spooky stories.

The book that I am reading for literature circles is The Tale of Despereaux. This book made it into my top three picks because I love this book. I have both read and watched the for this book before. One prediction I will make about the book is that Despereaux will survive the rats and come back from the dungeon. This prediction makes sense because in the book Despereaux was sent to the dungeon to be eaten by the rats. Although there is barely a chance to survive Despereaux is the main character and he can't die early in the book. This is the book I am reading for literature circles.

For literature circles I am reading the book Shipbreaker by Paolo Bacigalupi and it is dystopian fiction. This book was my first pick, followed by Z for Zachariah and Bruiser. I have read many dystopian books before like Divergent, but this one is a little different. It as a harsher society and everyone works on a crew or starves on the beach. My prediction is that the wealthy girl that Pima and Nailer found in the clipper ship will betray them. She seems like the kind of girl who will do anything to save herself without caring about the people she hurts, a girl like Sloth. Also, Pima and Nailer are probably nothing to her since she is very wealthy and they are just workers. She might get some of her own people to come and save her or she might alert some of the other workers on the beach and Nailer and Pima will get in very big trouble, and obviously get their light crew tattoos cut off.

For my literature circle book I am reading Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. I wanted to read it because it sounded like an exciting book with lots of meaning and creativity and seemed like a good can't-put-down read. I have read a few books similar to this one including the Matched series which was also set in the future in what seemed like a perfect society but had a few rebels who didn't want their whole life controlled. I think that farther into this book there is going to be a disaster not only for the main character but for the whole society and something big is going to be revealed about what has really been going on. There has been a few pieces of subtle foreshadowing throughout th book, like when Tally thought, "If nothing else, the mess left by the Rusties proved that things could go terribly wrong if you weren't careful," and when the text states, "If all the pretty toys somehow stopped working, just about everything in New Pretty Town would come tumbling down." There are many other signs of a future terrible event happening scattered through the book. There also is some kind of secrecy going on with the operation they get to turn pretty, because everyone seems to act and behave differently after they get it. Peris tells Tally to go back to Uglyville after she goes through the trouble of sneaking in to see him, which doesn't seem like a best friend kind of thing to do. He may just not have been thinking, but this and a few other things lead me to believe that the society is doing something they aren't telling about. I have so far enjoyed reading this book and I am excited to see what will happen later in the story and if any of my predictions come true!

For my lit circle book, I am reading the Uglies by Scott Westerfield.I chose this book because it was different than what I usually read.I wanted to expand my reading knowledge. Also, when Mrs.Stillitano book talked it, I was super interested in it and I felt like I had to read it.I actually have not ever read anything else like this before.Based on what I have read this week, I think that Tally will not tell the Special Circumstances people where Shay is even though she will not be able to get something she really wants. She made a promise to Shay and I don't think that she will break it.No matter how much she wants to turn pretty, I don't think she will tell them where Shay is.I hope she will figure out what the code on the note Shay gave her says because that would be an awesome thing to happen.Once she breaks the code, I hope that she finds Shay.I also predict that she will find Shay and stay with her instead of turning pretty.I"ll find out soon!

My literature circle book is Wringer by Jerry Spinelli. This book was it my top choices because it seemed interesting how the children had to wring the necks of the pigeon. Also it made me think of how their is a lot of pigeons in New York City and that could possible be an issue in the future. I predict that the main character will rebel against Farquar and not be a wringer. I have not read anything like this before, and this is my first time reading a book by Jerry Spinelli.

For lit circle this week I am reading "They cage the animals at night" by Jennings Michael Burch. I chose this book as one of my top picks, because it's an autobiography. I don't read autobiographies that often, so I wanted to try something new. It kind of reminds me of 'Annie" the movie. Jennings is stuck in the orphanage waiting for his mom to come back, and the nuns aren't really nice to him. Then jennings gets to go to Mr. Fraziers house who is rich, and he buys him clothes and other things he needs. In the movie Annie the same events happen, except in the Annie her mom and dad passed away. Based on what we read so far in the book I think Jennnings's mom will get too sick, and die. I think this, because his mom got sick 3 times already in the book and had to leave Jennings at a home. In the books it talks about how his mother doesn't eat much, because she can't afford to feed herself and children. Overall I'm really enjoying the book.

I am reading Painting The Black by Carl Deuker for my literature circle book. I picked this book because I love playing and watching sports especially baseball. I also have been lately been reading a lot of sports mystery books by John Feinstein. Based on what I have read so far I think that Ryan’s best friend Josh is becoming so popular that he will get wrapped up in all of it and do something dumb that could affect the whole community. I think this will happen because he is now the starting quarterback of the football team and is getting treated like he is the best and gets a lot of privileges that most people don’t get. He also keeps making promises to Ryan that he never shows up or does what he says. For example he told Ryan he would meet him for pizza after the game but Ryan waited and he didn’t show up. This is a really good book.

For literature circles I am reading Uglies, by Scott Westerfeld. I am very glad that I decided to try reading this book. This book was one of my top choices because it was dystopian and it was a challenging book lengthwise, I wanted to try out another Dystopian novel because I had previously read the Matched series by Ally Condie and I liked it a lot. I also wanted a challenging because I am typically a slow reader and I knew that for this I would have no choice but to read fast, and so far I think it has been helping me. Based on this week's reading I think that Shay is in more trouble than she let on, I think that she was tricked into going with David. I also agree with Dr. Cable of the Special Circumstances in that David is planning on harming Shay and her friends. I also think this because when Shay brought Tally to the ruins Shay was calling for David and he didn't come out, I think he was hiding because he knew Shay was already planning on coming to him but he couldn't risk Tally finding out about him.

My literature circle is reading an autobiography, They Cage The Animals At Night (It wouldn't underline). In this book, the protagonist is an 8/9 year old boy named Jennings. He bounces from home to home when his mom gets sick, and some are not so nice. Jennings goes to what he thinks is a rough home, but then he goes to St. Theresa’s. There he gets kicked and dragged across the wood floor by one of the nuns, getting millions of splinters. He gets taken back home when his mother gets better, only to get sick again. This time he actually goes to a nice family who cares about him. I have not really read anything like this before, because I haven’t read that many autobiographies. I predict that at some point, Jennings will get so sick of his life he will run away. Some of his friends from the homes have run away, and I think Jennings wishes he could too.

The book that I am reading is Bruiser by Neal Shusterman and is Science Fiction. This novel had different perspectives which I really like. Also, this novel is Science Fiction. I have always wanted to read Science Fiction but none of the books I saw seemed that good, they just seemed so unrealistic. I know that is the point but I didn't want to start out that way immediately. But when you said it was Realistic Fiction with a twist, it really made me want to read it. I have read books that have different perspectives, Chris Grabenstein is a good example, but I haven't read a Science Fiction novel. I predict that Brewster didn't recently get the power, or curse, of taking people's pain. That his parent's had it before him. We won't meet his parents, but it would be logical for them to have what he has with genes and all.

My book that I am currently reading for literature circles is Ship Breaker, a dystopian novel written by Paolo Bacigalupi. This book was the first choice on my list because I have never read a dystopian novel before. Also, the plot of how Nailer, the protagonist, struggles with his life as a scavenger who searches for copper to make enough money to get him by for at most two days. I’ve never thought about reading a dystopian novel before (mostly because I never was sure what that genre even was) or that I’ve never tried to expand my reading from science fiction or realistic fiction. So, a prediction I can make about this book based on what I’ve read so far is that Nailer will eventually end up going to a better place and get rich along with his friend, Pima. This is a logical prediction because when Nailer and Pima found a crashed ship, they found a rich girl on board half dead. Nailer decided to save her and then make her promise that when her father came to find her, she would take them to where she came from. This book changed how I see dystopian novels and makes me want to read them more and more.

My literature circle book is The Graveyard Book. This book made it to my top picks because I wanted to know how Bod could see ghosts and what the man Jack was up to and why he had anything to do with Bod. This book is a little bit different than any book I have ever read. I didn’t expect the book to be a little bit all over the place. Well it’s not all the place you just can never tell who is speaking. I think in chapter three Bod is going to end up at the ghoul- gate and getting into a lot of trouble because at the beginning of chapter three (where I finished in the book for the blog post) It’s talking a lot about the one gravestone that has a ghoul in ever grave has on ghoul and one ghoul grave. Also I think this because Miss Lupescu was talking about he has to learn about the Night-Gaunt and the ghoul-gate to get ready just in case he comes around to it.

I'm reading 'Lily's Crossing" for my literature circle group. It was one of my top picks because all the other books didn't look good. I don't think I have read anything like it except for "Under The Stars" which is about the holocaust. A prediction I have on the reading is that Lily will get in trouble for snooping around the neighbors houses and spying.

For literature circles, I am reading the book Wringer by Jerry Spinelli. The Wringer was one of my top choices because Mrs. Stillitano’s book talk about it sounded very interesting and I have never heard of a topic of such- a boy who has to wring pigeons. I also have never read anything like it before and it seemed like an unusual and interesting topic. My prediction for this book is Palmer will defend the pigeons with the pigeon-shooting event and he will have a bond with them. This is my prediction because one day, a pigeon taps on Palmer’s window and Palmer starts to feed him. The following day, the pigeon returns. Another prediction I have is Palmer and Dorothy will become friends again. I think Dorothy and Palmer will be friends again because Dorothy will find out Palmer has a pigeon and find out he doesn’t want to be a wringer. I think Mutto and Beans will also find out he doesn’t want to wring pigeons and they will be mad but still have a chance of being buddies.

For literature circles I am reading, The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. There were a lot of interesting things that made me want to read it, but the fact that got me real excited was when Mrs.Stilitano said that it was an example of a hero's journey. I have always loved this certain sequence of events. I've actually never read a book with the main character as an animal, so I thought I'd give it a try. There could be many predictions on what we've read this week, but the one that makes most sense to me is...Miggery Sow the girl in the next part of the book will not only not be afraid of Roscuro, but even become friends and help him. This prediction makes sense because at the end of the second book on page 121 the author stated, “The girl’s name, reader, was Miggery Sow. and though she did not yet know it, she would be instrumental in helping the rat work his revenge.”

The book I am reading for literature circles is Painting The Black, by Carl Deuker. What made me choose this book is that all the other books to choose from were science fiction and I don't like all science fiction books. Another reason is that most sports books I have read are mostly about how the team plays against other teams and how they reach the championship game. What made this book different is it shows how and what happens off the field and out of practice. I have not read anything like this before but I have read other sports books based off of basketball, football, and soccer. A prediction I have about what our group has read so far is that Josh is going to be the teammate that takes it to far and Ryan, the protagonist, must choose between his love for the game baseball or the truth. So far our prediction may be going on the right track because Josh, Ryan's new friend that just moved in and his baseball buddy, is very attracted to girls, but Ryan is worried because of Josh version of having fun with girls is the opposites of Ryan's version and Ryan is very scared of Josh's version of fun.

I am reading Ship Breaker, it is a Dystopian literature novel written by by Paolo Bacigalupi. I liked this book and put it on my top picks because overall it sounded interesting. I think it sounded interesting to me because of the plot. Like how Nailer, the main character, was a person who stripped abandoned ships of their light metals such as copper. Everyone on the island was really poor except for Lucky Strike who was a person who found oil in the ship and sold it for a lot of money. So, when the tide rises Nailer and his friend/working partner go looking for food and find a really expensive ship and one person is still living and they either have to kill her and get a lot of money, enough to make them richer than Luckey Strike, or keep her alive and might not get much money. Based on this week’s reading I think that Nailer will confront Lucky Girl and kill her and take the money. I think so because Nailer noticed that Lucky Girl’s jewelry on her fingers was starting to “disappear”.

The book I am reading for literature circles is The Graveyard Book. This was my first choice so I’m very happy and excited that I get to read this book. I chose this book because I found it very intriguing that if Bod leaves the graveyard someone will come after him. I have read books like this before and loved them which is weird because I can never remember what they were called. I love suspenseful books! I picked this book also because Bod was being raised by ghosts which I needed to know more about. I predict that Mrs. Lupescu will become a very important part in this book even after she left. I think that Silas hired Mrs. Lupescu for a reason. She is a guard of the underworld and saved Bod from being taken into the ghouls world. Something that I am really itching to find out is why Jack killed Bods family, I wonder if I’ll ever find out? So far my literature book has been very good, can’t wait to read more!

The book that I am reading for literature circles is Z For Zachariah by Robert C.O'brien. The thing about this book that made it my top pick is because when you were telling us about the books this book came to my interest. Because the protagonist Ann thought she was the only girl left in the world until a guy enters the valley where she lives named John Loomis. So far from what I've read my prediction is, that Ann will harvest the apples. This is my prediction because, she found crab apples growing on the tree that she had forgotten about. In conclusion, this book made my top pick because it stood out to me when you were describing the books in class.

In literature circles I am reading Painting in the Black by Carl Deuker. I am really happy I was assigned it because it was my first choice. The way Ms.Stillitano book-talked it made it seem very interesting and kept me wanting to know who this teammate was and what they did that was so bad that it would make Ryan want to quit the baseball team altogether. I love sports fiction and have read many books in that genre, although rarely about baseball because I don't know anything about it. Based on what I've read so far in the book my prediction is that Josh will be the teammate who takes things too far and that he may snap at Ryan again and Ryan will forgive him just like that, again. This is my prediction because Josh is the only teammate that throughout the entire book has been talked about and Josh seems like he could get cocky, since he seems to be good at most things, and snap at Ryan again for that very reason, or because he might get stressed out with all his sports. Also Ryan will probably forgive Josh again without him saying sorry because that is what he did the first time and it seems like Josh is the only person Ryan ever hangs out with or is even friends with.

For my literature circle I am reading Stotan. Im not really sure what really made me interested to read this book, it just seemed like a book I wouldn't normally pick and I wanted to step out of my comfort zone a little. I haven't on my own read a book about boys I usually go for the more "girly" books and part of this book is swimming and that's not something that I would usually read about because I am not a swimmer. On the first day I read this book, I was predicting that someone was going to sign up for stotan week and I was correct after reading a little more! My new prediction is that the main character will cheat on his girlfriend, who he was saying he didn't really have interest in anymore, with Elaine. He said him and Elaine were very close friends but you never know when that could lead to a relationship.

My book for the literature circle is Z For Zachariah. I chose this for my top picks because I like books that take place in the future and there's something wrong with our society. I've read hunger games and that's kind like this I predict that another person is coming to get shelter. It makes sense because there are still people left on earth and one by one dying from sickness and hunger.

This week for literature circles I am reading the historical fiction novel “Lily’s Crossing” by Patricia Reilly Giff. The reason why I chose this book as one of my top picks is because I usually like Historical Fiction novels. I have read many books that fall under the genre of Historical Fiction. Within the reading that I have done this past week I can predict that someone within lily’s community is a Nazi spy. I think this because everyone in her community is suspicious about people. Also because she has been easdropping on what people have been saying and she has heard people whispering suspiciously.

My literature circle book is Stotan! Stotan means a mix between Spartan and stoic. The protagonist is walker and his group of friends consists of Nortie, Jeff, Lionel, and Max (their swimming coach). Max announces that there will be a stotan week on the first week of Christmas break, December 19 to December 26. The boys have no idea of what stotan means. Jeff later finds out that stotan means what it means and they are not so happy about this. This book was my first choice and relates mostly to The Outsiders because of these groups of friends who have each others backs at all times. Like the Outsiders, Jeff is the leader, like Darry and Lion is like Dally. I predict that someone will die in this book because it has that sense of feel to the book.

The book I am reading for my literature circle is called ''They cage the animals at night.", by Jennings Michael Burch. The thing that made this book appear in my top picks was because I found out it was based on a true story, and that seemed very interesting and inrtriguing to me. No, I have not read anything like this book before, which is also part of why I find it so interesting and pulling. Based on what I have read so far, I think that Jennings will find a new home with a loving family. I believe that this may happen because Jennings had run away from St. Theresea's (which was his second home), and maybe he will ask some kind- looking people for help navigating to a certain place, and then they will take him into their home, grow close, and eventually be adopted.

This week I'm reading the Tale of Despereaux for my literature circle book. This book isn't narrated by Despereaux himself, the book is narrated by the same person throughout the book because there's three protagonists. I like reading books with that kind of narrator because it always stays the same and it's not only telling it from their point of the view, it's telling the story from a neutral point of view and tells both the good and bad. Some other books I've read are some that I'm reading now, the Atherton series, and books that I've read before, the Ever After High series. A prediction that I have is that Despereaux will somehow escape the dungeon that he’s currently trapped in. After Roscuro fell into the Queen’s bowl of soup, he may go back to the dungeon and help Despereaux in his possible attempt to escape the dark and dreary dungeon because if Despereaux were there for the rest of his life the story wouldn’t go on.

I am reading painting the black number 3 on my list. I had never read it before and i never wanna read anything like it EVER again! it's about some kid wanting to be good at baseball or something, I did not pay much attention after a few chapters (P.S. he denied bacon! I am starting to not like this protagonist) I predict the main character will achieve his goal because a lot of books the school hands to us is cheesy like that, that's why I like The Outsiders, I honestly do not know why I even PICKED this book! It's so dull! I can't wait till we get our old bookmarks again, right when I get a study hall to work on it I am forced to read a dull book, why can't i read something more like The Outsiders or a Graphic Novel, or a project on Big Nate! I would ACE that!

I am reading Painting the Black for this literature circle group. I chose this book because it had a sport in it. Baseball is not one of my favorite sports, but it's better than nothing. I have read sports books but this one is unique because it isn't just about the sport. One prediction I have is that Josh will be the one who takes something too far for Ryan. It may come true because Josh has done some bad things in the book so far.

I'm reading the book, "Painting the black" by Carl Deuker. I choose this book for many reasons that fit me. First off, I love baseball and football, and love and funny book. This book was able to fit my criteria and much more. I've never really read anything like this before. I love how it explains all the sports games that occur in the book. My prediction is that Ryan will make the team and be a starting catcher and win the championship game. P.S. Great choice on the book i'm loving it so far
