Since I missed the majority of your recitations, I'd like to hear more about them. In your blog post this week, tell me what poem you chose to recite. Why did you choose this poem? What was challenging about the recitation assignment for you? What did you do during your performance that set your recitation apart from others who recited the same poem as you? Did you consider singing the poem like the examples you saw in class? What recommendations would you make about this assignment for next year? Your post should be 100 words or more.

The poem I did was "Alone" by Maya Angelou . I don't know why I chose the poem. Something just drew me to it. Maybe because it was so serious and I like serious poems . When I was memorizing it, I did ok but just kept mixing a few words up. By the time I performed it, it was perfect. I don't know what really set me apart from other students, I just went up there and performed. No I don't like to sing. I just said it once as a joke but nothing serious. One suggestion I have for next year is o have a practice session before the final presentation because some people went up there not knowing what to do and forgetting their lines up there.

When I presented my recitation, I memorized my poem in front of the class and tried to make complete eye contact with the class. When I was presenting, it was easy at the beginning until I came to the last paragraph. I stopped for a minute and thought for about five seconds and then I figured out what the sentences in the middle of the paragraph where. I said my last words of the poem and everyone clapped and I was happy I memorized the poem correctly. I also memorized the title and author correctly at the beginning. I didn't sing because I couldn't think of song that could be made into the poem I did. I chose the poem I did because it was a good and easy poem for me, to memorize. I also know Robert Frost has good poems and he's the author of the poem I did. I think the poem I did was fun.

The poem that u recited for the class on thursday the week before vacation was "Alone". I choose this poem because I thought it would be very easy to make into a song because it did not sound like a poem to me, probably because it was long and repetitive. Some challenges that i faced where finding a good melody on my guitar and remembering it, i thought of a really good melody on the first day and then the need day i forgot it and had to think of a new one. Another challenge that i faced when memorizing this poem is that it was very long. i was abel to memorize it completely by the day before reciting it and didn't have to think at all when i did the poem then. What made my poem different was the fact that i chose to sing the poem rather than just recite it, i also used my guitar. I recomend having more poems as voices need year or having the students vote on the poem.

The poem I choose to recite was When You Are Old by Y.B Yates. I choose to do this poem because i thought it was shorter and it hard for me to memorize long poems. The challenge for me during this was to memorize the stanzas because they didn't really go together and was hard to remember. The thing that set me apart from others was I think the drama and motions and just feeling loose. I didn't really think about singing it because I am a terrible singer. I think next year the kids that pick the the longer poems should have maybe a little more time to remember the poem.

The poem that I had chosen to recite was Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening by Robert Frost I chose this poem because it has rhyming in it and those kind of poems were always easy for me to work with. I like to relate poems to lines in a play because I do lots of plays and I have to memorize lines so memorizing a poem is just like memorizing lines. I actually really enjoy doing these kind of things in front of the class because its something I like to do and I hope through out this unit I will have more chances to do these kind of things. Also I really enjoyed watching people sing to a poem I thought that was really unique!

I chose the poem, "Alone," by Maya Angelou because the words have meaning and can be related to the everyday lives of many people. The main message of this poem is that nobody can make it through life on their own. Even the wealthy have struggles in their lives and need their friends/family to always stand by them. "The race of man is suffering" means that everyone in the world has bumps in the road map of their lives and they are all working to get through them. Most importantly, though, they are working through them with the help of others, not by themselves.

The poem I choose to recite was When You Are Old by William Butler Yeats. I choose this poem because I think that it had easy word to memorize and it was short. What was challenging about the recitation assignment for me, was getting up in front of everyone to recite the poem. I did not consider singing the poem because I can't sing. But I liked how people singed and played their guitar. Recommendation I have for people next year its maybe choose one that has easy word so that it won't be difficult. And you can choose one that rhyme so its easier to memorize.

I chose "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" because I predicted that it was going to be a very easy poem to memorize because it rhymes and the last two lines are repetitive. It ended up that my prediction was right! That poem was a extremely easy poem to memorize. It took me around two days to get that poem all memorized. I think the most challenging stanza to memorize was the 3rd stanza. For next year, I would recommend putting on more easier poems for kids to memorize. Overall, I thought "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening' was a pretty easy poem to memorize.

The poem that I chose to recite on Thursday was stopping by woods on a snowy evening by Robert frost i picked this because it was the shortest and because it had lots of rhyming words so it was easy to remember also the last two lines in the last stanza are the same so I didn’t have to remember as many words as I normally would I thought that at first it would be worse than it was but it wasn’t that bad I thought that some of other pomes where a lot harder

The poem i chose to recite was "Stopping By Woods On a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost. I chose this poem because i seemed to be able to connect to it the most. I didn't consider singing the poem because I am not the greatest singer and I couldn't find a way to put the words into song. I also chose this poem because it rhymed and that made it much easier to memorize. I recommend that people should try to choose a poem that rhymes because it will make it much easier to memorize. If you don't pick a poem that memorizes, try to make little tricks to help you remember the stanzas.

For my poem recitation, I chose the poem,"When You Are Old". This poem was challenging at first but as I started to memorize it, it got easier. It was hard because the rhyming in the stanzas was so far apart it was confusing. I chose this poem because I am bad at memorizing things so I chose one that looked shorter than most of the others. What set me apart from the others was that I think I was the only one who did this poem that didn't use the sheet you gave us or notes. I would recommend this poem to the 6th graders coming next year because it is short and easy to recite.

The poem i decided to recite for the whole call was ''The Raven'' by Edgar Allan Poe. I chose this poem because I thought it would be somewhat easier to remember since it was almost in a story format unfortunately this was only half true and some of the verses were difficult. I also chose this poem because some of the others works done by Poe aren't half bad even with there darker mood. When i recited my Poem i didn't sing even though i'm sure all of you would love to here my voice. Instead i read my poem normally loud enough that every one could here me. I think i read it in the right mood not to happy. IN all though i ended up reciting up the poem memorized and i pretty sure i only missed two words.

I chose to recite the poem “stopping by the woods on a snowy evening” because it was by Robert Frost and the other poems I have recited were by the same poet. I found that the most challenging part of my recitation saying the poem poetically. I found that challenging because I had to remember the poem wile at the same time present it and still say it poetically. I tried to say the poem clearly to set the recitation apart from others. I would recommend having not more than five people do the same poem for next year because almost everyone did the one I did.

For my poem, I chose “Stopping by woods on a snowy evening,” by Robert Frost. At first, I didn’t want to do this poem, I wanted to do “Alone” but I changed my mind at the last second, because I didn’t start memorizing it until after the weekend was over, but my sister, Allison started reciting it the day that we got the assignment and she usually practiced in the same room that I was in so I unintentionally memorized half of the poem without practicing it once. So once we started practicing in class I just had to do a little bit more, but it was easy. I was happy that I did good on the assignment, but Allison one upped me by memorizing two poems, “Stopping by woods on a snowy evening”, and “Alone”.

The poem I chose to recite was 'Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening' by Robert Frost. I chose this poem because I like Robert Frost as a poet and I have recited and seen his poems before. I did not consider singing the poem because I don't sing. To make my recitation different from others, I tried to be very loud and clear. I did this because I was unable to do it in my previous recitations. I thought the actual recitation was fairly easy, I just forgot the title in the beggining, so I had to go back and check my notes once. Other than that I had no problems!

The poem I recited was "When Your Old" By: W.B. Yeates. I thought this poem would be very easy but it was actually was kind of tricky because not very many words rhymed . I thought the recitation was going to be very nerve racking to speak in front of the class but it actually wasn't . It was great to hear others creative ideas like pretending that the classroom was snowing and riding a horse. Also some people sang and played guitar. I thought this was a very relaxed calm assignment. A suggestion for next years poem recitation is to let your students work in a group together because you can do very cool things in a group.

The poem I memorized for the recitations was “Alone” by Maya Angelou. A lot of people thought I was crazy to choose it because it was so long, but on the contrary, it was quite easy to memorize. The refrain repeating so often made it so that once I learned that, I pretty much knew half the poem. I chose this poem because I thoroughly understood the meaning of the poem, and I thought it was plausible that I could remember it, but it was not too easy. Considering we had two full periods in school to work on it, I was able to memorize most of it then. I never actually saw the video of someone singing “Alone” but when Mrs. Stillitano announced that we could sing it, I thought I might. I forgot about that until the day of my recitation, when I was asking around to see if anyone had sang. It was slightly challenging to remember the order of the stanzas and when the refrains happen. I thought it was memorable that I sang the poem. I really enjoyed the poetry recitations

I recited the poem, “ Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening” by Robert Frost. I chose this poem because I enjoy Robert Frost poems and I like the poem, “ Nothing Gold Can Stay”.Memorizing the poem was a very difficult task for me. During my recitation I threw beautiful paper snowflakes around the classroom to set a scene for the poem. I don't think anyone else did that. I did not ever consider singing the poem. A recommendation I have for people doing this assignment next year is, it takes a lot of concentration to remember a longer poem.

I presented the poem "Stopping by woods on a snowy evening" by Robert Frost. The one thing that set me apart from other peoples poems is that I forgot my lines so I got a pretty bad grade. Next time though I will surely give more effort into memorizing the poem.

The poem I recited was “Alone” by Maya Angelou. I chose this poem because it was easy to remember. It was also catchy from the song we heard on the video we watched. The most challenging part of reciting my poem was to have good facial expression and to talk like the mood of the poem. Like if it was sad talk sadly. I don’t really know what made me stand out from the other people doing “Alone” I guess because there was only a few people in my class who did the poem “Alone”. I didn’t really think of singing the poem because I don’t really like singing in front of people. Next year I would recommend making more rhyming poems to chose from because usually they are easier to memorize.

The poem I choose to recite was Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost. I choose this poem because it rhymed, it was short, and was easy to remember. I did consider signing it...for about 2 seconds. I think that people should try and choose a poem that rhymes and is short. It should be no problem if you choose on like this. This is probably why many people choose to do this poem. I think that if I did it again I would have done a better job with eye contact.

I choose stopping by the woods on a snowy evening by Robert Frost. I chose this poem because it was simple and easy to remember. What Made my poem standout is that I ripped paper tissues and throw them to act like snow. I didn't sing because I don't like to sing that much. I recommend that you try to standout instead of just saying the poem. Also try to look at the audience as much as you can and speak clearly.

The poem I chose to do was “Alone” by Maya Angelou. I chose this one because I knew a lot of other people were doing it so I would get to hear other people do it to make it easier to memorize. I also did this one because the repetition really made the memorization easier for me to do. In my opinion, the hardest thing about reciting this poem was the way it said the chorus at the end again. I think this because after saying the chorus twice already and finished the third verse it always just felt like it was the end. But then I had to say the chorus again after it. What set me apart from the others when I recited the poem was it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be at all. I was shaking before I went but once I got up there, I realized it wasn’t so scary considering how much a hate public speaking. I didn’t really see the big deal anymore and just said the poem. I did not consider singing the poem in front of everyone in the class because I do not sing in front of people unless I am forced to which is very rare. I also didn’t want to take the time to figure out the right tune and rhythm for the poem. Just saying it for me made it much easier. A recommendation I would make about this assignment for next year is I think people should get to choose groups to say the poem with instead of reciting it alone. They would choose how do say it together whether they wanted to break it up or simply say it in unison then get grade for their group performance.

For my poetry recitation, I recited the poem “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” by Robert Frost. I also memorized the poem “Alone” by Maya Angelou, just because I could. The most difficult part of memorizing my poem was the beginning. Once I got started, it was easy, but for some reason, I struggled remembering the first word. I choose to recite Robert Frost’s poem because I love winter, and I have woods in my backyard that are beautiful in the winter time, and I like poems that rhyme. To make my poem different, I tried to memorize word for word. Some people confuse words like ‘and’ and ‘so’, but I did my best not to. I considered singing my poem, but quickly dismissed the idea, mostly because I don’t do solos, unless they have something to do with percussion. Next year, I think it would be a good idea to come up with motions to help memorize certain parts of the poem that seem more difficult to memorize than others.

The poem I did was "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening." I think that my grade was lower then it should of been and that you would of done a better job. I thought it was easy and I didn't have to study for a long time at all. I only studied for maybe 10 minutes for a couple of days. I also thought that a lot of people in are class did well and injoyed doing the recetions 2 people even sung and I didn't expect anyone to sing. I kind of liked everyone going but I didn't really enjoy presenting myself. It was intersting to see the poems picked. And those are my thoughts about the poem recitations

The poem I chose "Because I could not stop for Death (712)" by Emily Dickinson. I chose this poem because it was intriguing and beautiful. Also, compared to some other poems it was challenging. Hardest part of memorizing this poem was trying to have a facial expression that went with the poem. During my recitation I did some hand movements that went along with the poem, like the occasional hand place on the chest when I said I or a pronoun that included the speaker. I think I did well during the recitation. Even though I got an A+ I think there are parts in which I could've improved. I think i could've slowed down a little bit. Otherwise, I think I did a good job reciting my poem.

I chose When you are old by w.b yeats. I chose this poem because it was quite catchy and i liked the wording. It was challenging for me to learn the poem by heart because nothing really repeated. It think i did ok on my poem but i still looked at my poem so it brought my grade down drasticly. I think over all I did ok.

I recited "Stopping by the woods on a snowy evening", by Robert Frost. I chose it because it was kinda short, had a good rhyme and rhythm, and had words that were easy to remember. Also, we did Robert Frost before, too. Nothing was really challenging except that the middle stanzas are alike so I mixed them up. I did not even consider singing because I think singing is terrible and I can't sing at all. Mine was set apart from other recitations because i messed up and was like "Crap", so that's probably why I got a B+

For the recitations I recited "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost. I chose this poem because I really enjoyed "Nothing Gold Can Stay", the poem we did for extra credit in the beginning, which is also by Robert Frost, so I decided to do another one of his poems. For me eye contact was the most challenging part of the recitation, aside from the fact that whenever I go up to the podium, our class never stops talking. For students next year who do this project I would suggest that you work on memorizing it until you could recite your poem in your sleep because most people who did it even if they knew their poem still got nervous. Also, I would suggest going towards the beginning of the presentations because you'll only make yourself more nervous.

The poem I chose to do was an excerpt from "The Raven" by Edgar Allen Poe. I chose this poem because Edgar Allen Poe is one of my favorite poets/authors, and since I had previously read the poem, it would be easier for me to memorize. The most challenging part about "The Raven" was the difficult vocab that Poe often uses and sometimes confusing word placement. I would recommend people to recite this poem next year because it provides a challenge and was written by one of the most popular poets ever known.

I recited the poem, “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” by Robert Frost. I chose this poem because when I was little my mom and I had this in a book and used to read it all the time. The challenging part to reciting it was learning all the lines to begin with and not forgetting a word or line. In my recitation I kept the same speed and remembered all the lines. Some others stumbled and forgot the second from last verse. I would recommend adding more poems to the list of what people can choose. I really like the poem I chose and I’m happy I chose it.
