I never knew I would be remembered for walking down the hallways of my elementary school. Yet here I am outside the President's office, looking at my painting on the wall, staring like a dumbfounded fool. No matter how cruel the world was to be to me, I wouldn't back down. I used it to fuel me and built a foundation that helps thousands now. I never knew I could make such a difference, while still to so many I was seen as a hindrance. I wish I could travel back in time, to tell my six year old self what we're doing is not a crime. I'd tell her though people's words can be as piercing as a bullet, to stay strong and live our life to the fullest. Because what we accomplished could never undermine the verbal abuse and blatant racism we received. But what it could do is give us peace in our mind, knowing that we are helping so many people and knowing all the things we've achieved. I'm so proud of how our world has progressed in their ways of acceptance for all. It's as I'm watching a baby take his first step after all he's done is crawl. Though he may be a little shaky at first and may go back to his old ways, I know that in no time he'll be walking on sideways. Our world is the same way. We have a lot to learn, but we've learned so much already. One day I hope I can say that our world is indeed ready.
